Remembering September 11, 2001 — 25 Years Later
On the morning of September 11, 2001, a series of tragic events unfolded in New York City, Shanksville, Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C. In an instant, our nation was overwhelmed by emotions of shock, grief, fear, and disbelief. The images of that day became permanently etched in our memories, while the catastrophic loss of life changed countless families and communities forever.
Yet, from the darkness came an extraordinary sense of unity. As a nation, we came together around a simple but powerful message: United We Stand.
Twenty-five years later, we continue to remember September 11th. We honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost that day, as well as the firefighters, police officers, emergency personnel, military members, volunteers, and countless others who sacrificed in the immediate response and in the months and years that followed.
Friday, September 11, 2026, marks the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001. Across the country, solemn ceremonies and commemorations will provide opportunities for reflection and remembrance.
Local Remembrances
Here in Florence Township, the Florence Township Fire Department will hold a remembrance ceremony in front of the department on Firehouse Lane beginning at 9:45 a.m. on September 11th. The ceremony will be supported by members of our local police and fire departments.
The National September 11 Memorial & Museum in New York City will begin its 25th anniversary program at 8:30 a.m. The ceremony will be available through local news outlets and online streaming.
At the Flight 93 National Memorial, special commemorative events will take place from September 9 through September 13, 2026.
Closer to home, Chesterfield Township will host a 9/11 Commemoration and Remembrance Ceremony from 5:30–7:00 p.m. at 295 Bordentown-Chesterfield Road. The program will include a flag-raising ceremony and National Anthem, a keynote address from local leaders, a moment of silence and prayer, and an opportunity for community reflection and remembrance.
On this 25th anniversary, we join our residents, families, first responders, veterans, and all those who serve and protect our nation in honor, remembrance, and reflection.
