The Florence Township Economic Development Committee continues to visit local existing businesses in town as well as welcomes new establishments to our community. We had the opportunity to spend time with the owners of The Groom Room Pet Salon, which has officially opened for business at the Shoppes at Mallard Creek. Sitting down with Brandie & Trish we learned a lot about their approach to creating this exciting new business.
The Groom Room Pet Salon is a new women-owned, values-based small business located at The Shoppes at Mallard Creek in Florence, NJ. The salon is owned and operated by Brandie Devlin, who has spent the past ten years working hands-on with animals. Animals are also a huge part of Brandie’s life both professionally and personally. Outside of work—she has four dogs and two cats of her own! Being a pet parent herself has taught her just how different every pet’s personality, comfort level, and needs can be.
Earning a bachelor’s degree in environmental policy from Rutgers University and completing multiple certifications in grooming and pet care, has created a philosophy where the discipline of education aided greatly in developing an environment in the salon provides an organized and knowledgeable level of care with your pet’s safety and comfort as a top priority.
The Groom Room was created to feel different from a traditional grooming salon. The salon focuses on a personal, lower-stress approach and understands that grooming is not one-size-fits-all. Some pets are nervous, some are older, some need extra time, and others simply do better with a little more patience. Dogs and cats of all sizes and ages are welcome, and cats have their own separate, quiet grooming room away from the activity of the main salon.
Comfort was considered throughout the salon. The Groom Room uses Fear Free techniques, dog- and cat-specific calming pheromones, and noise mufflers to help reduce stress. We were impressed to learn that the salon uses filtered and softened water for bathing, which reduces minerals and impurities found in hard water. This process helps shampoos and conditioners work and rinse more effectively and provides a gentler experience for the skin and coat.
The Groom Room was designed with its groomers in mind. Grooming can be physically and emotionally demanding, so the salon’s layout and equipment were chosen to make the work safer, more comfortable, and less physically demanding. Groomers are given the right tools, support, and time to care for pets without feeling rushed.
The Groom Room believes happy, supported groomers are able to provide better care for pets. The goal is to create a place where pets feel safe and cared for, groomers enjoy coming to work, and pet parents feel confident leaving their pets in caring hands.
