THE TOWNSHIP WATER DEPARTMENT WILL BE FLUSHING HYDRANTS

FROM September 22ND THROUGH November 14th

Please call (609) 499-2518 for flushing dates and times in your specific area.

The routine flushing of fire hydrants is conducted twice annually to ensure the continued safety and efficiency of the water distribution system. This process helps remove sediment buildup from water mains, improves water quality, and verifies that hydrants are operating correctly for emergency use.

During flushing, residents may notice temporary water discoloration or a brief drop in water pressure. These effects are normal and should subside shortly after flushing in your area is completed. It is recommended to avoid doing laundry or using hot water during periods of discoloration to prevent staining.

What should I do if my water is brown or discolored after hydrant flushing?

  1. Run Cold Water: turn on all cold-water faucets in your home to flush the sediment through your service line.
  2. Be patient: let the water run until it clears; it may take 10-20 minutes or longer
  3. Avoid Hot Water: do not use hot water until your cold water runs clear to prevent pulling the discolored water into your hot water tank. If you do happen to pull the water into the hot water tank you may need to flush your tank.

We appreciate your understanding as we perform this essential maintenance.
