The Adopt-A-Cop Program was implemented in 1993 to encourage interaction between Florence Township police officers and Florence Township school students. It is a program designed for Third Grade students at the Roebling Elementary School and Riverbank Charter School. Its goal is to develop a positive relationship and create an open dialogue between the students and police. The officers strive to meet with their assigned classes during school at least once a month throughout the school year.  They participate in various school activities with students such as class holiday parties, and “Read Across America”. During the visits officers lead discussions about topics such as stranger awareness, pedestrian and bicycle safety and bullying.  At the conclusion of the school year, The Police Department hosts a picnic for students and staff at Nykita Field on Hornberger Avenue. The picnic gives the students the opportunity to get an up close and personal view of the daily equipment used in law enforcement.

Cpl. Jason Shafer, Ptl. Brian Panaro, Ptl. Paul Wright, Ptl. Zachary Czepiel, Ptl. Christopher Green, and Ptl. Salvatore Spart are assigned to Florence Township Police Department Adopt-A-Cop program.
